Just wondering 'cause I heard that some radio stations in the US changed the "imagine no religion" lyric to "imagine one religion," which probably would have pissed John Lennon off to no end.
I find it offensive that radio stations should presume to interfere with an artist's lyrics. If they don't like the message, they shouldn't play the song.
Personally, I first heard the song when I was a person of faith, and it shocked me, but I never thought of condemning the song or its author. I merely thought of it as someone's opinion.
Amen to that.
I don't think they should have changed the song, but I don't see why you assume it would have upset him that this particular lyric was changed.
I disagree with certain lyrics. But I get the point he was making, and I agree. One religion or no religion, it was about people coming together.
I don't think the point was that of anti-religion. Perhaps his personal beliefs were not religious in nature, but I think the problem he had with religion was not the beliefs, but the way people acted towards each other when they differed.john lennon lyrics
I'm a dreamer... but I'm a realist as well. Religion or not, I feel there are people who would rather not see people come together, and they are willing to use any excuse to work towards that goal. I'm not offended by the song though, because while I disagree with the lyrics and I embrace my beliefs, the message it gives is one everyone should strive for.
Those lyrics kind of makes me feel all tingly lol. Because really, imagine if there wasn't? We would still find something else to fight over though. Not that i think religion itself is the cause of problems, it's the followers of religion that cause the problems
are you serious, that's ridiculous, like saying one religion is less controversial than saying no religion. oh and to the other poster, if imagining a world with no war, no money, no politics, no material possesions, only peace, is communist then sign me up.
You mean it's OK to call play songs that talk about rape, yet not to play "imagine no religion"? I love that song!
I had no idea the lyrics were changed. That's pathetic. If I was Yoko I'd be suing.
That's why he got killed for this song
I did some research to yourjohn lennon lyrics question and there is no evidence that John Lennons' "Imagine" has been changed.
I highly doubt that radio stations actually do this.
there is something seriously wrong with anyone who has something against John
I love the song. I wasn't offended at all although I do not agree with them changing lyrics.
Now that is a total disgrace. The sneaky sort of thing hard line Xtians would do. Some Xtians know no shame.
I never heard of changing the lyrics on radio stations... I'm not sure if that's been done. Most likely the song simply wouldn't be played (for example, on a Christian radio station.)
I like the song, although I don't agree with the message. It already seems so dated... The idea that "above us [there is] only sky" hasn't solved the world's problems.
Me the song is communist propaganda.
I never cared for that song. Without God, there is NO peace.
I just think it is a dumb song.
and I am a fan of his music, in general.
The song is silliness spewing from a drug addicted fool.
